Makeup artist, beauty editor of i-D and brand ambassador of YSL Beauté – Isamaya Ffrench has collaborated with Bistrotheque owner Pablo Flack and David Waddington in East London to create edible makeup.
Isamaya who was a chef for five years before becoming a makeup artists told WWD “I’ve always loved cooking, and when I started speaking to Bistrotheque we came up with the idea of culinary cosmetics and also packaging everything to look like pharmaceuticals, because people are so obsessed with taking medicine and supplements or having Botox these days.”
Guests who attended the event included Pam Hogg, FKA twigs and Claire Barrow. The dining experience included a six course meal served by waiters dressed as lab technicians whose eyebrows were bleached, and wore platinum blonde wigs. The waiter were clothed in lab coats with surgical masks and latex gloves to assist the clinical atmosphere.
Fred Butler has compared this intriguing dinner to that of Lewis Carroll’s peculiar publications. We agree and can see Alice in Wonderland dining on such a meal.
Courses included meals such as ‘Pressed parfait compact’ that looked like blush, white chocolate and chilli lipstick and even a layered collagen BBLT, bringing a twist to the classic bacon, lettuce and tomato mix by adding beetroot. To make the event even more intriguing and sophisticated; multi-BAFTA nominated and Ivor Novello winning composer Daniel Pemberton, composed a piece to coincide with each course aiming to increase the intensity of the clinical atmosphere.
Isamaya has made dreams come true by combining two of our favourite things; makeup and food. Would you try these culinary cosmetics?
What do you think of this kind of make up?
