Trends of the month: May

The summer is fast approaching, at least according to the calendar, and we are all excited to start planning our looks for the hot season. This is why we are launching our new series of articles – ‘Trends of the month’, where our editors will be picking the hottest trends of the season, packaging them up in 3 stylish looks and sharing with you the stories of each item. Excited? We are too. Let’s start!

Look_1: Rocky star

As the festival season is here, retailers are taking it into consideration preparing stylish, sexy and rocky items for us music lovers. We thought these House of Harlow x Revolve Bree crop & wide trousers are just perfect for the May festivals and late spring strolls around the city. Launched in 2009, the House of Harlow’s ‘1960’ collection was born from creator Nicole Richie’s fascination with creating fashion for the purpose of self-expression. From the beginning, Richie has been the creative force behind the brand, determined to translate her love for costume dressing into each design. Complement these items with these insane Balenciaga boots for the rocky look. Inspired by Dr. Martens’ classic designs, they are punctuated with two-tone buckles and cutouts that have been crafted in Italy from black glossed-leather with a supportive, chunky sole. Charlotte Tilbury’s signature lipstick, Anastasia Beverly Hills brow gel would make your beauty game on point.

Look_2: Casual chic

We’ll be honest, we created this look around these awesome Topshop Clear Knee Jeans. Slick plastic panels bare your knees for a futuristic feel in tapered and cropped high-waist jeans. Tack in a plain gray t-shirt made of organic cotton and don’t forget your Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse Milk low-top sneakers with signature red playful heart. The bag that we selected for this look is by AmeriLeather, and is a transformer – it easily converts to a shoulder bag if you’d like, and it includes coin purse & dust bag for storage. Decorated with a kaleidoscopic array of interwoven strips of genuine leather, this convertible bag is a vibrant and versatile addition to any look. Why not wear it all with Dior’s “Dior So Real” sunglasses feature silver mirrored lenses framed by crystal acetate and silvertone metal?

Look_3: Carrie Bradshaw is back!

We thought we’d reminisce about the astonishing outfits from the iconic TV series played to perfection by Sarah Jessica Parker, and recreate them for all you modern-day Carries out there. Yes, Sex and the City might have been a show about love and friendship, but we all are in love with Carrie’s wardrobe, aren’t we?

The midi dress we selected is by Mara Hoffman, a New York (of course, just as in the series!) designer who studied fashion design and graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York and Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London. Hoffman has evolved from collections featuring hand-dyed couture pieces to her current collections which concentrate heavily on original silk prints. Her line encompasses everything from swimwear to cashmere coats pulling inspirations from nature, world travel, and fantasy. This dress would be just perfect for the walks around Central Park (or any other park actually), especially accompanied by Christian Louboutin pointed-toe heels and Chloe round frame sunglasses. Don’t forget to take Mark Cross’s Benchley bag to finish the look of modern elegance. It’s meticulously woven from rattan that’s perfect for sun-drenched spring days and is given a feminine flourish with pink leather trims. The signature red lined interior has enough room for the smallest essentials. Let it swing from your shoulder using the skinny adjustable strap.

Which of these looks would you pick? Let us know in the comment section below!
