What went down at Comic Con 2017

Comic Con is a magical haven where people can unite and see their favourite stars, and celebrate their favourite franchises over a four-day period. This years’ San Diego Comic Con brought us costumes, (with a high number of young girls dressed up as Wonder Woman) announcements, and trailers.

Highly anticipated spy sequel to 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service was the first to kick off Comic Con this year. Kingsman: The Golden Circle is set to bring all the spy action from the original and adds in new cast members Channing Tatum, Halle Berry and Jeff Bridges.

This year, Marvel dropped new footage from Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi. Both Waititi and Chris Hemsworth introduced this new trailer by saying they were “bored” with what Marvel had been doing with the Thor character in previous films.

During the Hall H panel, Fans were also treated to the trailer for the highly anticipated The Avengers: Infinity Wars which contained a kick-ass combination of Thor, The Avengers, The Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther as they all take on Thanos. Unfortunately, the trailer is yet to be released online so we’re just going to have to wait.

Netflix shows have been doing extremely well over the past year, especially Marvel series’ such as Dare Devil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.  And for the first time, fans will soon get to see their favourite heroes fight together in The Defenders.

Marvel fans who attended The Defenders panel got a pleasant surprise after the cast Q&A, when they were treated to a screening of the first episode of the new series. It was also announced by Jeph Loeb, to the surprise of many, that Iron Fist will be back with another season.

Fans of The Punisher (set to debut later this year) also got a little treat, as they were shown a clip from the upcoming Marvel and Netflix series.

But one show that has people’s heads spinning in excitement is the Duffer Brothers Netflix series, Stranger Things. In a Halloween-themed preview, featuring ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson, we are taken back to 1980s Indiana where we see Will Byers struggling to get back to reality, as the upside down continues to haunt him, and a new threat looms over the little town of Hawkins. With Eleven still missing, will the boys be able to concur the evil?
