British Model Adwoa Aboah has been part of a three-part portfolio with Juergen Teller, taking images in different locations. The first chapter took place in her birth city, London, followed by a sequence of shots in New York, where she currently lives.
In this next chapter, Adwoa Aboah takes the fashion house, photographer Juergen Teller and fellow model Sonny Hall to her fathers’ home country, Ghana. location around her family home in Accra, the capital of Ghana, Adwoa directed the shoot. Returning to Ghana brought back fond memories for her, as she explained to Vogue that their trip, stirred many emotions.
“I tried very hard not to be too emotional about this trip, but it’s so special for everyone to see where the story started. To be in Ghana means coming home. I’ve been able to bring close friends of mine here, and my grandma and my family have had a taste of what the other part of my life is like”
Despite not growing up in Ghana, it holds a very big place in Adwoa’s heart, as it where her father grew up, and has experienced it through him growing up. “Even though I have felt like an outsider, I always secretly felt like it was home.”
Adwoa made this a family affair, asking her aunt to design and make some garments for the shoot. In an Interview, Adwoa’s Aunt (Tina), described to Burberry her experience with the project: “I was sitting in my office and this big, long bundle of Burberry fabric dropped on my desk. Adwoa called me and said, “auntie Tina, I have something for you to do, you have to make me a dress.” I’ve had a week of sleepless nights because I just wanted to get it right. My tailors are amazing, and it’s just been wonderful doing something with Adwoa. I’m not going to sleep for months! I’m still dreaming.”
The images show Burberry’s autumn/winter 2018 pre-collection, with designs including exciting and colourful prints and graphics, suits, outerwear and accessories.
