March is a notoriously difficult time of year when it comes to dressing. It feels too hot to wear our winter wools but too cold to get out our summer dresses. But there is a sartorial solution, and it comes in the form of the boiler suit. From its humble beginnings as practical work uniform for industrial jobs, the boiler suit became a symbol of gender equality during WW1 due its loose fit and androgynous appearance. Now with a contemporary twist, the boiler suit proves that style doesn’t have to be sacrificed for practicality. Here are the top eight boiler suits for Spring Summer 2019.
Mango’s ‘Dark Denim Belted Boiler Suit’ is versatile, suitable to go straight from the office to after-work drinks. The flared leg is dying to be paired with some heeled boots and a statement bag would perfectly finish off this look. If you’re looking for a slightly edgier evening look, Nasty Gal’s ‘Black Leather Boiler Suit’ can be worn with simple silver heels to nail a glamorous look with minimal effort.
Topshop are slaying the boiler suit game and with mountains of options, these two come out on top. Whilst the ‘Rust Corduroy Boiler Suit’ is elegant and mature, the ‘White Short Sleeve Boiler Suit’ has a refreshing spring-time feel, ideal for a picnic in the park (although remember to take a blanket to avoid inevitable grass stains). Two very different boiler suits, but both are equally adaptable and scream GIRLBOSS all over.
For a more playful look, ASOS and Urban Outfitters offer the ‘Colour Block Denim Boiler Suit’ and ‘Baby Pink Utility Suit’ respectively. The eye-catching colours mean that the only styling you need to do is pair them with a classic white t-shirt and trainers.
Finally, Jaded London have stood out from the crowd with their unique and edgy boiler suit designs. A collection of vivid colours and animal prints means they are right on trend this season. The ‘Neon Green Snakeskin Boiler Suit’ is a welcome juxtaposition to the standard floral prints of spring and the heart zips of their ‘Red Button Up Boiler Suit’ are an adorable added detail. Extra points go to Jaded London for the nineties styling with miniature shades and bandannas.
Which of these boiler suits will you be wearing this season? Tell us in the comments below!
