Ashley Isham brought bold colours, 80s power-glam and copious amounts of glitter to the runway for his Spring/Summer 2019 collection.
Originally from Singapore, Ashley Isham moved to London in 1996 to take a pattern cutting course at London College of Fashion. In November 2000, he debuted his first collection, and in 2001 he opened Acquaint, his first boutique. Not only has he dressed numerous celebrities from the worlds of film, television and music, but Isham has even dressed British and international Royals over the years.
This London Fashion Week, the designer presented his romantic and electric Spring/Summer 19 collection at Freemasons Hall. The striking RTW line was filled with sequins, being heavily inspired by Ibiza nights and empowering femininity.
Ashley Isham uses block coloured broderie anglaise and sophisticated embellishments to convey a chic but flirtatious feel to this collection. We predict that summer nights are destined to be more glitz than ever if you’re wearing one of these dazzling pieces.
Drawing inspiration from Seventies and Eighties evening wear, the metallic fringed dresses glided across the catwalk, making the runway feel more like a dancefloor. This was enunciated with the choice retro disco hits.
The evening dresses were worn with belts adorned in stars, which perfectly accentuated the model’s waist lines, while embossed brocade and voluminous ruched fabrics set a sweet undertone to the collection. But, it was always the sequin floor-length dresses and sparkly jumpsuits that reigned supreme throughout this star-studded collection.
The models’ hair, styled by Toni & Guy, was slicked to one side, which revealed chandelier earrings and giant bows, once again acknowledging the iconic style of the 70s and 80s. This mixture of hair styling and accessories truly added to the collections’ playfulness and elegance.
The designer stays true to himself and delivers his signature bomber jacket, but this time with a playful twist of two tone combinations and bright floral patterns. Isham’s boys wear peacocked co-ords with feather and embroidery accents.
This bold and tropically themed clothing line comes as no surprise from Isham, as he often celebrates his colourful flamboyance in his collections. So, if you are ever in need of a perfect yacht-to-pool-party ensemble, look no further than Ashley Isham SS19.
