When you think of Bad Neighbours (2014) hottie Zac Efron, it’s not ‘dark serial killer’ that quite springs to mind, right? Well, in Efron’s latest movie role, he will be dressed to kill…quite literally.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is an upcoming thriller telling the gory tale of serial killer Ted Bundy, who assaulted and killed several women in the 70s. The movie is told through the perspective of Bundy’s long-term girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, played by Lily Collins, who continued romancing with the murderer despite having suspicions that he may have been involved with the disappearances of several women. Elizabeth eventually turned him in to the police, and he was executed by electric chair with three death sentences in 1989, after escaping custody twice, whilst waiting for the murder charges.
It is no doubt that the character of a serial killer will be a massive contrast after his last role as Matt Brody in Baywatch. He told Buzzfeed in a recent interview with previous co-star Zendaya, “Ted Bundy is going to be a challenge. I think it’s going to be different and it’s going to be fun. I’m super stoked”.
Ted Bundy was always described as an attractive and charming man and used these qualities to lure over thirty women to their death. So, if there is anything that Bundy and Efron have in common, it could certainly be their charm and good looks.
Despite the chosen part being a surprise to some, mainly because his past film roles typically portray him as the ‘hottie’ stereotype, producers have said that Efron will be perfect for the role of Bundy because he can show not just his charm, but the depth of his character too.
Cheeky Zac even got the approval from Ted Bundy’s former lawyer, John Henry Browne, that the film could be a ‘career maker’ for him, and even joked to TMZ that the casting choice was ‘dead on’.
Below, the actor looks spookily like Bundy in his 70’s transformation, with curly hair, side burns and a green turtleneck.
Although many fans are thrilled at the idea of seeing Efron try something completely different and delve into the darker realms of cinema, some people are not so happy with the idea of sensationalizing a true murder story. Clearly, Ted Bundy is an evil man who committed some horrific crimes, yet people are still very much excited at the idea of Zac Efron playing him in the movie. Some are concerned that the emphasis of Efron’s looks within the role will make light of the storyline. What do you guys think of the casting decision ?
Whether you’re a fan of Efron or not, only time will tell if he has the eyes of a killer, as well as killer abs.
