With the temperature dropping, sometimes tights just don’t cut it. That’s why we’re taking inspiration from our favourite fashion bloggers and the like to compile a list of stylish trousers for you, whether you’re going out on the town or keeping it casual this season.
Be There or Be Flare
This style took over the world in the 1970s and was brought to life by musicians such as Slade, David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Jimi Hendrix, who all embraced the flamboyance and flair of the glam-rock aesthetic.
The trouser silhouette broke its way onto the big screen in the film Saturday Night Fever. Released in 1978, the iconic blockbuster featured working-class Tony Manero and his life of music, dance, violence and fashion. If you’ve seen the movie, you’re bound to know that he was not shy about wearing flares.
Now, flares are enjoyably worn by everyone. Freddie Harrel (pictured, centre) is a blogger, born in France, has now made Britain her home. Having worked in the fashion industry, from being a digital strategist to a stylist, Freddie is no stranger to experimenting with different styles. For her photoshoot with Huawei mobile, she rocked a pair of retro style flare trousers.
To replicate her look, try River Island’s bootcut flared jeans. At an affordable price this stylish pair are high rise with frayed hems, a button and zip fly fastening. Best of all, they boast five pockets.
A pair of cropped skinny flare jeans can make any casual outfit look chic and Stella McCartney has created the perfect funky pair. As always, McCartney presents a selection of contemporary fashion and accessories for the modern woman without eschewing the ethical ambitions that the British brand was built on. Embroidered with star patches that pay homage to the aforementioned glam rock era, these blue cotton blend jeans feature a waistband with belt loops, a button and zip fly and a five-pocket design.
Blogger Sara Louise is very much about creating vintage looks with a modern twist, mixing high street with luxury. Her classic yet contemporary style has inspired many, gaining her 75.6k followers on Instagram. Her chic pair of Zara snake skin wide leg trousers are perfect for this season, so we have found some alternatives.
Popular online retailer Pretty Little Thing are a trend based label, so it is no surprise that they have a wide range of snake print clothes, one of which is the Maroon Faux Leather Snakeskin Trouser. Featuring a flattering high waist and straight leg fit, what’s not to love? Style with a black turtle neck jumper and black heeled boots to make the trousers the statement piece.
Like PLT, Missy Empire have their finger firmly on the trend pulse. Their Haven Trousers are a sturdy snake print material with a cropped silhouette and zip fastening. These are a great pair to start introducing animal prints into your wardrobe.
Keep it Klassic in Pinstripes
You may love them, you may not, but you cannot deny that the Kardashian and Jenner clan have impeccable style. At her KKW Beauty pop up event, Kim stunned in a pinstripe suit at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.
Pinstripes have always been a style staple, gaining popularity in America in the 1920s and ’30s. They were worn by both musicians and gangsters, and films such as Gone with the Wind made the style mainstream. But it might surprise you to know that Winston Churchill had a big part to play in the exposure of the tailored trend in Great Britain, as it’s been said that he was never without his trusty pinstriped trousers.
ASOS puts a colourful twist on the classic pinstripe with their burnt orange pin stripe flared tailored trouser. These high waisted trousers are wide leg with functional pockets, and we think they’d look great paired down with a pair of white trainers and a white tee.
Rixo are a brand that focus on contemporary garments that accentuate the feminine form. Their Rocky Cream Pinstriped Trousers are cut to flatter your figure with their cropped kick flare fit. We guarantee they’d be the star of your Winter wardrobe and would carry you from Christmas all the way through to Summer with this versatile monochromatic hue.
This year, checked and plaid prints have always been on the fashion radar as a year-round essential print.
British style blogger and Youtuber Chloe Miles is the queen of classic, embracing monochrome and neutral colours in her styling. She was recently snapped rocking a pair of Massimo Dutti check trousers, which inspired us to explore similar options…
Nasty Gal’s Checking Out High-Waisted Pants caught our eye with their straight leg design and neutral tones with blue shades running throughout. There is currently a 50% off everything sale, but hurry! The offer will end soon and you can’t miss out on these at this amazing price.
P.A.R.O.S.H. take vintage clothing and re-imagine them for a 21st century wardrobe. This brand offers a fun pair of straight leg checked trousers made from a multicolour wool blend. With its 80’s inspired cut, the trousers feature a high waist, button & zip fastening, back jetted pockets and super on-trend turned up hems.
A Pop of Colour
Colour is just what you need to brighten up this cold and gloomy season. Bright by name and bright by nature, blogger Patricia Bright has caught our eye in her mustard yellow trousers.
An alternative comes from Miss Selfridge, the go-to brand for simple yet stylish clothing. They continue to impress this Winter with their sophisticated ginger tab paper bag trousers which have sleek tapered legs.
Italian fashion house Etro create instantly recognisable, brightly coloured designs. Amongst their creations is the hot-pink Violante trouser, a bubbly take on a smart-casual look. They are a flattering high waisted number and have a slim-leg shape with defining creases at the front and back.
With the countdown to Christmas officially on, which fashion favourite will you be taking inspiration from this Winter?
