Backstage Tales predicts what fashion trends are to come in 2018.
With Pantone selecting their colour of the year as ‘Ultra Violet’ and an array of designers showcasing ensembles of violet, mauve and lavender in their current Spring/Summer ‘18 collections, no doubt you’ll be slipping into something a little more lilac very soon.
Late 2017 saw Gucci vow to go fur-free and auction off any remaining animal fur items. Roughly two months later, Michael Kors announced that they will be fur-free by December 2018, with this also applying to Jimmy Choo, which was bought by Kors in July last year. This exciting, long-overdue and game-changing movement will hopefully mean that those remaining fashion houses that have not decided to make the fur-free promise will follow suit. In the meantime, one may wonder if the banning of animal fur will result in brands having a more conscious effort to reduce their usage of leather.
The Return of the Bum Bag
A 90s staple and a sportswear icon, the bum bag is a surefire way to give your everyday get-up an urban twist. For street style inspiration, look to Kim Kardashian and stepsister Kendall Jenner, and for oversized old-school vibes look no further than Fenty x Puma.
Denim’s Triple Threat
No matter the season, denim is a life-saver all year round. So, what better way to pay homage to its brilliant versatility by ensuring that every item you are wearing bar your underwear is made of the material? Channel your inner cowboy/cowgirl and drool over Tom Ford’s uber-cool SS18 collection, where he championed deep indigo denim washes.
