The name on everybody’s lips from NYFW is Alexander Wang. Bringing out his Spring/Summer 2018 collection he showcased his pieces during many different shows throughout the whole of fashion week. The former Balenciaga creative director’s first show of the week was Lafayette and Centre Streets in Manhattan, the second being Astor Place. His final debut was at Bushwick, Brooklyn where he turned the streets into a runway… genius, right?
There’s something very futuristic about Wang’s recent designs and we’re loving it. The idea of adding an urban edge to his collection makes him stand out from the crowd and the media have responded in a very positive uproar. Fashionistas, fellow designers and journalists are in ore of the supermodels looks and outfits as the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerba marched through the street. Kim Kardashian with Kris Jenner amongst other A-listers such as Anwar Hadid were in the audience awaiting the street- catwalk preparing for one of the most iconic runways yet.
The style that Alexander Wang was inspired the most from for his Spring 2018 collection was most definitely a party-girl vibe. Supermodels Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid enjoyed a headpiece each, one reading ‘PARTY ANIMAL’ and the other ‘WANGOVER’. Dark washed denim layered with fun pieces such as bandeaus and bralettes left a fun urban, after-dark look. More formal looks were also showcased with little black dresses and monochrome suits finished with gold and silver zips from hem to waist. Although a lot of greys, silvers, monochromes and sequins were used to mix and match each piece, a splash of red was also popular within accessories and shoes.
The afterparty was then held at a Brooklyn warehouse on the street the runway was staged upon, emphasising again the collections true routes- party-girl. What was your favourite piece?
