The fifth series of Orange is the New Black will soon be returning to Netflix. Yep… It’s that time of the year again. That time spent glued to our computer screens for two solid days, ignoring the outside world, following the life of Piper Chapman and her fellow cellmates.
So, what will this season have to offer? The trailer shows that most of the previous cast will be returning: Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Danielle Brooks, Selenis Leyva, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, Kimiko Glenn, Jackie Cruz, and Lea DeLaria are all set to return, as are Adrienne C. Moore, Julie Lake, Laura Gómez, Vicky Jeudy, Emma Myles, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Nick Sandow.
This season will differ from the previous seasons as the whole series will take place over just a few days. Instead of capturing a few weeks or months it has been reported it will take place specifically over 3 days in 13 episodes…
The series leads on from season 4 which ended on a cliff hanger, including a prison-riot after the death of one of the leading and favoured characters: Poussey (Samira Wiley). The prisoners closed in on the guards, and it ended with fellow lead character Dayanara (Dascha Polanco) holding a gun to the officer’s head. The end is left in suspense…. Will the trigger be pulled? I’m sure we will find out as Series 5 will most likely follow on from this moment.
The seasons so far have become exceptionally popular due to it being one of the few programmes which has an entirely female cast, tackles issues from a feminist point of view which is a prevalent issue in today’s society and caters for all minorities, including women, transgender people, and multiple ethnicities.
Season 5 will be released on the 9th June 2017 on Netflix, we can’t wait to see what this season has in store!
