Star Studded: Burberry recruits big names for Christmas 2018

When you think of Burberry, you think of their trademark scarves and trench coats, those items that perfectly encapsulate the charm of British sartorial style. But with the festive season slowly but surely on its way, we’re going to focus on something else the luxury fashion brand aren’t half bad at too…their annual Christmas campaign.

With yuletide carols hot at our heels, rest assured that Burberry never cracks under pressure. Cast your mind back to 2016 where we were treated to a mini blockbuster movie with stars such as Domhnall Gleeson, Sienna Miller, Dominic West and Lily James telling us the ‘Tale of Thomas Burberry’ to celebrate 160 years of the company. You could say that when it comes to Christmas ads, Burberry are the John Lewis of Fashion.

The 2016 campaign, ‘The Tale of Thomas Burberry’, was a seasonal spectacle.

This is why when Burberry started posting pictures of their 2018 cast on Instagram for their ‘Close your Eyes and Think of Christmas’ campaign, it was impossible not to be excited. Launching on 13th November, this Christmas will be Riccardo Tisci’s first since he took the lead from Christopher Bailey back in March.

The campaign does not look set to disappoint as the star-studded cast is far from second best. The likes of Juno Calypso, Matt Smith, M.I.A, Kristin Scott Thomas, Naomi Campbell and her mother Valerie Morris Campbell will all be wearing pieces from Tisci’s pre Spring/Summer 2019 collection in the much anticipated campaign.

Let’s take a closer look at the Burberry cast and crew…

Juno Calypso

Award winning London based artist Juno Calypso is the photographer and director of the campaign. She communicates issues of solitude, desire and femininity through photography, film and her alter ego ‘Joyce’.

Matt Smith

Matt Smith

The British actor is best known for his titular role in Doctor Who and as Prince Phillip in hit Netflix series ‘The Crown’. This Christmas he continues to follow in the footsteps of his girlfriend Lily James, who starred in the 2016 Burberry Christmas campaign (Smith made his Burberry debut in 2017 alongside Burberry poster-girl Cara Delevingne).



The English rapper and singer is known for songs such as ‘Bad Girls’ and ‘Paper Planes’. Her career as a political activist and her evocative lyrics work hand-in-hand to make music with a message.

Kristin Scott Thomas is an award winning actress and British icon of stage and screen. She starred in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ and ‘The Seagull’, gaining a BAFTA and Olivier win respectively.

Nothing brings the family together more than Christmas. The iconic supermodel and her mother star alongside one another in the campaign, and it’s evident where Naomi gets her stunning looks.

So, will Tisci’s campaign live up to Bailey’s back catalogue? All we know right now is that contrary to the title – ‘Close your Eyes and think of Christmas’ – our peepers are well and truly peeled. The countdown to Christmas has officially begun.
