Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, revealed that he is working on the musical ‘Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical’. The show will tell the story of the famous music band Destiny’s Child (as it suggests from its title, featuring one of the main pop hits titled ‘Survivor’). Are you as excited about the musical as we are?
Knowles is collaborating with director, writer and producer Je’Caryous Johnson, who has recently worked on a musical based on Snoop Dogg, and Set it Off Live, which was an adaptation of the Queen Latifah-starring 1996 film of the same name that also featured Destiny Child’s original member LeToya Luckett.
“I want to pull back the curtain,” Mathew Knowles said in a statement on his website. “I feel it’s time to give the world an opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father and manager who risked everything in pursuit of fulfilling dreams – those of mine and others.”
You will be able to see the play on Broadway and in London’s West End. Knowles also has ambitious plans to send it on a world tour after. The premiere of the musical will be held next year in Houston – the hometown of Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child.
‘Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical’ will traverse the “humble beginnings and travel through a captivating storyline addressing the layers of evolution – good and bad – that Knowles faced during his pioneering climb into the music industry.”
Beyoncé recently released a surprise album AND a film that dropped on Netflix of the 17th of April. The pair both have the same name whilst her album soundtracks her live performance at Coachella’s 2018 festival performance… of which she was the first black woman to headline the event. The 40-song long feature includes hits from over her career including B’day, Lemonade and 4, this isn’t just any ‘greatest hit’ album.
