We started Friday morning backstage at Brewer Street Car Park, and the hair and makeup teams were already in full swing getting the models ready for the Teatum Jones show. The makeup was simple and the hair was sleek, with rosy cheeks and natural skin the models looked amazing.
For their Spring/Summer 2017 collection, Teatum Jones joined the hype and introduced menswear for the very first time. The duo met designing menswear together, and have now decided it was time to bring a TJ man to join the ladies.
“The Teatum Jones man is not afraid of colour or texture.”
– Rob Jones and Catherine Teatum
The prize winning couple featured a exquisite collection this Friday, and it was a sweet edgy colour pop of a show. The palette was strong this season, and featured a mix of stark primary colours such as bright red and cobalt blue. It really catches your eye this one.
Classic tones were spiced up with embroidered details and popping colours. They have used merino wool yarn, sexed it up with leather paneling, dyed merino to acid bright colours and mixed stripes and florals. It was an interesting design journey TJ presented this season and it made us miss summer already.
“The SS17 narrative seemed a particularly poignant and relevant human story to explore the diversity and layering of gender and gender stereotyping within fashion.”
– Teatum Jones
With the simple silhouettes and romantic florals, TJ still managed to keep a masculine feel on the collection. Mixing the feminine with the masculine, they successfully maintained their message behind – be who you want to be, no matter your gender. Strong patterns, stripes and florals were stabilised with neutral colours, and it all had a bit of a edgy gone cute feel.
What do you think of TJ’s message to society and the SS17 collection?
