The best makeup for acne-prone skin

Whether you’re dealing with the odd breakout here and there or have a constant patch of acne, covering it up is one of the first things you want to do, but you’re often faced with a conundrum. Do you use every concealer, foundation and primer you have in the hope to cover it up and not see any traces or do you let your skin go bare faced in the hope your breakouts go away – and fast? Thankfully, there is an answer, with beauty brands recognising that acne is one of the biggest skin problems, there is makeup designed specifically for acne-prone skin!

We speak with Celebrity make-up artist and skincare expert, Karin Darnell on all thing’s acne…

‘’High coverage foundations are very popular amongst those with acne-prone skin, as they fully cover all blemishes, however, these foundations can clog up your pores more and therefore it’s best to try and stick to a more lightweight foundation that will allow your skin to breathe.

I would also recommend steering clear of foundations that contain oil and instead opt for oil-free foundations, as some can clog pores and cause further breakouts. Salicylic acid is an ingredient to look out for in foundations, as this ingredient helps to keep pores clear of excess oil.

With any foundation that you use, always use a makeup brush or beauty blender to apply and blend the foundation in, whether it’s a paddle foundation brush or a clean blusher brush. However, it’s so important to clean your makeup brushes weekly, as bacteria can build up and cause more break outs on the skin.’’ – Karin Darnell
