The Grammy ‘s red carpet is always impressive and in 2018, that proved as true as ever. Sunday evening’s awards show, held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, was a moment for celebrities to make extravagant and bold choices when their hair and make-up. The evening was filled with memorable beauty looks. Some looks were incredibly zany but there were others that captured our attention for being impressively innovative. From Lady Gaga’s laced-up, corset hair to the simplicity of Janelle Monáe’s flash of sapphire under-eyeliner, below are our favourite five glamourous icons.
Lady Gaga as expected never disappoints. At last year’s Grammy’s the eccentric star taught us how to make pink hair, pink eye makeup and pink lipstick completely wearable all in the same look. And this year she has done it again. The artist went with a midnight black graphic wing, with the liner tracing her lower lash line, and sparkly pink shadow blended up to her brow bone. For the precise cat-eye flick, celebrity makeup artist Sarah Tanno utilized the Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Blacquer. Of course, a dramatic and epic cat eye is always expected but just when you think Lady Gaga couldn’t be more extravagant, think again… Her hair featured two braids that were linked using black lacing. This Game of Thrones hairstyle was the show stopper that completely stood out at this year’s Grammy awards.
Since the debut of “Video Games” in 2011, the singer’s stylized cinematic voice and songs have been personalised with the use of ’50s and ’60s makeup styles. Her retro style which includes cat-eye makeup and Americana-influenced hairstyle standout in the beauty world, with its romantic notes and glamour. It’s her signature look, and like her sound, it’s remained consistent and unique. She remained true to her sported classic Hollywood style with an elongated cat-eye and dewy makeup at this year’s Grammy’s. Her hair was simplistic, with a middle part and slightly bumped ends. But her statement piece that topped off her beauty was a Gucci crown, unofficially crowning herself the “Queen of Retro”.
Camila Cabello has given us serious hair envy. Her hair look adds to the many reasons why considering getting curtain bangs this year is a good idea. Camila Cabello showed up at the Grammy’s wearing her wavy long hair in a low, tousled ponytail and her bangs parted in the centre, giving them a ’70s vibe. Shimmery eyeshadow and a glossy nude lip made it a total red-carpet win, and references a glamorous every day tutorial.
Janelle Monae debuted an entire hair colour makeover at the 2018 Grammy’s with her pixie cut dyed partially platinum created by celebrity hairstylist Nikki Nelms. Janelle Monae is known for her unique looks on the red carpet but according to Popsugar, this year is the first time she has challenged a Disney Villain as the actress arrived with a haircut that was half black and half platinum like the cartoon fashionista, Cruella de Vil. Her deep side part was accented with small crystal barrettes, softening her dramatic look. But her makeup was just as magical. The singer’s skin looked so radiant, and her eyes popped with a bright teal liner and bold lashes. It is an unmissable look.
Hailee Steinfeld adorned the Grammy Awards red carpet in a simplistic white dress, vibrant purple boots and a shimmery blue eyeshadow. The rest of her makeup was kept minimal with full brows (goals), effortlessly tousled hair and glowing skin. The mermaid shade of turquoise eyeshadow not only stood out against her glamourous white dress but demonstrated how colour can be incorporated in a subtle way. It’s a gorgeous look, that feels quite achievable for minimal makeup lovers that want to do something a bit special. This shade is already on the top of our beauty must haves.
There were many hair and makeup that stole the show at the Grammy’s 2018. Which looks do you think should be on this list?
