To celebrate the recent engagement of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, we decided to look at some other ‘Royal Weddings’ and the songs they chose for their first dances. From the King, Elvis Presley and Priscilla to Queen Bee and Jay Z, we hope you enjoy our list of famous first dances.
As you would expect, music was at the centre of the Kardashian-West wedding. From the amazing orchestra playing a rendition of Lana Del Rey’s ‘Young and Beautiful’ at the engagement to Lana herself performing for Kim’s wedding party before the Big Day. Opera legend Andrea Bocelli serenaded Kim as she walked down the aisle and friend of the family, John Legend was on hand to entertain guests at the reception by playing his hit, ‘All of Me’. Amongst of all this, the couple chose to do their first dance to a mashup (prepared by Kanye) of Etta James ‘At Last’ and two Otis Redding songs ‘These Arms of Mine’ and ‘Tenderness’.
America’s sweethearts Michelle and Barack Obama wowed their wedding guests with a first dance to ‘You and I’ by Stevie Wonder back in 1992. Over the years, Michelle has been very open about her relationship with Barack. On numerous occasions she has offered up advice that she has learnt over their twenty-five years of marriage,
“I think in our house we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is the best form of unity, I think, in a marriage.”
The King (Elvis Presley) and the beautiful Priscilla got married in 1967. Their wedding was nothing short of glamorous, a huge cake and a massive meal in the heart of Las Vegas. Not only are Priscilla’s nails and wedding makeup so enviable, their first dance was ‘Love Me Tender’ performed by Elvis himself. How romantic!
Worldwide superstars, Beyoncé and Jay Z got married on April 4th, 2008 during an intimate ceremony in Jay-Z’s penthouse apartment in New York. The couple chose an interesting, but totally adorable choice for the first dance, their 2003 hit ‘Crazy In Love’. Despite the recent headlines surrounding the couple and their retrospective albums about the infidelity, Jay Z has recently said that it was their love for art that kept them together,
“I was really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released. And, you know, at the end of the day we really have a healthy respect for one another’s craft. I think she’s amazing.”
Over two billion people worldwide tuned in to the Royal Wedding back in 2011. Audiences watched in awe as various celebrities, royals, and dignitaries appeared at the entrance of Westminster Abbey, it was the hottest ticket in town! Although much of what happened at the wedding reception remains secret, we do know that British singer Ellie Goulding performed her cover of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ for the couple’s first dance.
What song did you have for your first dance? Or what would you choose in the future? Let us know in the comments!
