It’s that time of year again when we’re frantically trying to buy Christmas presents for all our friends and family. There’s so many options out there, but the real trouble is choosing a gift that is original and not just another-pair-of-Christmas-socks socks. From some lesser known, alternative brands to fail-safes like notonthehighstreet.com, look no further, as Backstage Tales have taken the liberty of providing you with a thrifty under £50 quirky gift guide (and try saying that after one too many mulled wines).
First things first – leopard print. It’s definitely having a moment this season, and it is definitely hat weather. What better way to tell your pal that you think they’re an absolute gem?
£45 – Lazy Oafs
This horoscope wash bag is a perfect personalised token. A simple idea, but will make the recipient feel like one-in-a-million. And of course, it comes in all of the star sign constellation designs.
£19.50 – Vinegar Hill
I suppose we are contradicting ourselves here, but this really is not just a typical Christmas mug. Arty Burgers do rock ‘n’ roll crockery. They have a wide range of cool alternative music themed prints with funny puns – and who doesn’t love a pun. A good option if you’re not looking to spend too much (and I may be a tiny biased because of my love for Oasis and Arctic Monkeys).
£11 – Arty Burgers
At only a tenner, this is brilliant stocking filler and a great one to play after a few drinks at the Christmas table.
£10 – Urban Outfitters
A bit of a jump in price, however this is a really cute retro Christmas gift that will stand the test of time. It’s a fab idea for those aspiring to start a record collection, and better yet, it comes in a practical portable case. It has a built in speaker, but for those who like to crank it up to 11, there’s also the option of connecting the player to a Bluetooth speaker too.
£31.99 – Clas Ohlson
This gift is spot-on if the person you’re buying for is a tad soppy and a big sentimentalist. Amongst other personalised prints, Posterhaste create star maps based on a date, time and place you select of your chosen moment with the person you are buying for. This could be a first meeting, first date or a special life landmark in general. Either way we think it’s a really thoughtful concept!
Starting from £20 – Posterhaste
Oh so cheap and super cheerful, this rainbow is an awesome way to light up your friend’s world this Christmas. It also comes in other statement designs such as a heart, a star and a cactus. A simple yet effective way of adding some excitement and colour to a room. Pot of gold sold seperately.
£22 – Chickadee
One of my personal favourites, this smartphone projector is so useful – especially if you use Netflix on your phone as much as I do. It means you can watch a film on a big screen anywhere and everywhere (just as long as your phone has battery ofc). The price is really good too, and considering nearly everyone has a smartphone and loves films, this gift is fail-safe.
£17.95 – Notonthehightstreet.com
Who doesn’t like a simple yet stylish slogan tee? Olive and Frank sell funky t-shirts with some feel-good messages on them – a trendy way of spreading some positivity to your most loved.
£32 – Olive and Frank
This lipstick set is awesome if you’re catering for a girly girl. It comes with a nice variation of colours to choose from so the recipient can switch up their day-to-day look, and by including five lipsticks, we think it’s quite a bargain too!
£40 – Net-a-Porter
Party season is fast approaching, but have no fear. Spoiled Brat have a range of bold sequinned clutch bags that will add zest to any outfit. With a range of messages to choose from too, we think this fun fashion gift will go down a storm on December 25th.
£34.99 – Spoiled Brat
We hope these ideas help you out if you’re struggling to think outside the box this Christmas, and if you have any other interesting gift ideas, please share in the comments below!
